BAKING STONE RECIPE IDEAS AND USES
No matter what you choose to create, a baking stone allows you to explore new and exciting culinary possibilities with your oven. Learning about the different uses of a baking stone can help experiment with different textures and cooking styles for your baked recipes.
1. BREAD
Baking stones are great for achieving the soft and fluffy interior yet crispy exterior desired for many breads. Your baking stone is great for achieving golden and crispy crusts for recipes like delicious buttermilk biscuits or homemade loaves of sourdough bread.
2. PIZZA AND FLATBREAD
As the dough cooks on its surface, the baking stone can help you create pizza and flatbread crusts that are crispy on the outside and soft inside. Use your baking stone to make recipes like homemade chicken and pesto pizza with a delicious crispy crust or a flavorful flatbread.
3. DESSERT
Baking stones provide ample space for exploring endless dessert possibilities. Bite into the sweetness of chocolate chip cookies with crispy bottoms or pudding cakes with your favorite berries. You can also enjoy dessert for breakfast by whipping up a batch of scones on your baking stone with additions like raisins or a bit of chocolate spread.
4. APPETIZERS
Looking to whip up a few sides to complement dinner? A baking stone is great for testing out different recipes for baked appetizers. With its ample space, your baking stone is great for experimenting with seafood like mussels before your main course or making fries to go with a juicy homemade burger.
5. ROASTING
Your baking stone can also help you create juicy interiors for roasted meats or char seasoned veggies for your favorite recipes. Use your baking stone to roast flavorful garlic potatoes or begin experimenting with oven techniques like roasting strawberries to garnish fluffy pancakes.
HOW DO YOU USE A BAKING STONE?
The baking stone absorbs and retains heat easily, making it great for achieving juicy baked meats and flavorful roasted veggies. After preheating inside the oven, you can use your baking stone to make homemade pizza with crispy crusts. Easily remove your freshly baked pizza from your baking stone with a helpful tool like a pizza peel.
When using the KitchenAid® Smart Oven+ Baking Stone Attachment, follow these steps:
STEP 1: PREHEAT
Place the +Baking Stone Attachment in the oven and select your desired baking temperature, either manually or through Mobile App connectivity. The length of time it will take your baking stone to preheat will vary depending on the temperature.
STEP 2: ARRANGE FOOD ON THE BAKING STONE
Place your food on the surface of your baking stone and set the oven timer according to your recipe.
The KitchenAid® Smart Oven+ Baking Stone Attachment can easily be removed from the oven to help you place food directly on the surface without using a tool like a pizza peel. Place parchment paper on a non-rimmed cookie sheet and arrange the items on the parchment in a single layer to easily transfer multiple items on and off the +Baking Stone Attachment.
If desired, you can cover the baking stone with parchment paper before beginning the oven cycle. To bake long, skinny items like baguettes, place the food diagonally on the baking stone for a better fit.
STEP 3: TURN HALFWAY THROUGH COOKING
If your recipe calls for it, turn your food halfway through cooking. Some items, such as bread and rolls, do not need to be turned when cooked on the baking stone. When baking items such as fresh breaded fish or chicken, it’s recommended to turn the food halfway through baking.
STEP 4: CLEAN THE BAKING STONE
Keep your +Baking Stone Attachment ready for next time by cleaning it after cooking. Before cleaning, allow the attachment to cool. If hand washing, use soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. You can use baking soda to help remove difficult spills or a plastic scraper to help remove baked-on foods.
