WHICH STAND MIXER ATTACHMENT DO YOU USE FOR COOKIE RECIPES?

Understanding the right accessory to mix, fold, whisk and cream with your stand mixer is key to producing the most delicious cookies. Use your flat beater for cookie recipes. The flat beater is ideal for creaming butter and sugars, folding ingredients and mixing cookie batters. If you’re making a meringue-based recipe that calls for whipped egg whites, choose your wire whip accessory for this task.

The KitchenAid® Flex Edge Beater, which comes with select stand mixer packages or can be purchased separately—for both tilt-head and bowl-lift mixers—is also ideal for mixing cookie batter, folding ingredients and creaming sugars and fats. The flexible edge thoroughly scrapes ingredients into the bowl, reducing overall mixing time.

WHAT IS THE BEST STAND MIXER SPEED FOR MAKING COOKIES?

Setting your stand mixer to the correct speed is crucial for creating optimal results. Speed 4 is ideal for mixing semi-heavy batters like cookie dough. Many cookie recipes start by creaming the butter and sugars. Select speed 6 for creaming tasks. When adding dry ingredients, start on speed 1, a slow stirring speed, to keep ingredients in the bowl, and gradually increase to speed 4.

HOW DO I STORE HOMEMADE COOKIES?

Air can be the enemy of baked goods, so keeping homemade cookies airtight is the key to their longevity. After the cookies have cooled, place them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. If you’re using a cookie jar, store them in a sealed storage bag in the jar. For optimal freshness, add a piece of white bread to your container, which will help keep cookies soft.

Cookies made with perishable ingredients, like ricotta, cream cheese or meringues should be stored in the fridge to help preserve them.

If you’re not planning on eating your cookies within three days, it’s best to freeze them. Place cooled cookies in layers, between sheets of parchment paper, in sealed plastic bags and store for up to a year. Cookie dough can be stored in airtight containers in the freezer for up to two months.
